Salt Water Tears

Salt Water Tears

A Poem by Freedom's Child

I sit motionless on the bow
looking into the glassy ocean eye.
Volcanic blisters erupting from my body
spilling thick rusted blood.
My mouth pleading for liquid
dry as any desert.

Desperation and despair take control
they collide and thunderous anger breaks the silence.
My spit less mouth screams at the ocean's eye
Why do torture me this way?
She looks at me stunned and hurt
and then softly begins to speak.

Why do you claim me violent
when I have given you nothing but love?
I fed you with all I had
I allowed you to ride my back.
I gave you a home
when no one else wanted you.

I laid speechless
she continued with her whispers.
For all I give you
have you ever been there for me?
They shower me in poison
have you tried to stop them?
They murder my family in the name of beauty
have you tried to stop them?
They suffocate me in a black trash bag
have you tried to stop them?

I could see her salt water tears flowing
all she ever did was love me.
I now knew why I was so hatefully angry
I never came to the rescue of my mother.
