Tree of Woe (1-800-273-8255)

A Poem by Matthew Kult
"

Depression

"
I've been all alone.
Have nothing to show.
Nothing to call my own.
Just hanging from the tree of woe.

Nothing to show,
Nothing my own,
All alone,
On the tree of woe.

Trapped in my head.
Barely able to get out of bed.
Why does life have to be hard?
Nobody understands, or just disregard.

So I hide my tears,
My fears.
Want my existence ended.
Is this what was intended?

Nothing to show,
Nothing my own,
All alone,
On the tree of woe.

I won't be missed.
So why exist?
Those thoughts persist.
No reason to resist.

I want to die.
No longer cry.
Stop living a lie.
I, just, want, to die.

I've been all alone.
Have nothing to show.
Nothing to call my own.
Just hanging off the tree of woe.

Every day I force a reason why.
Why I shouldn't die,
And get by.
Continuing to try.

Try to survive,
Try to be alive.
Try to see tomorrow.
Try not to drown in sorrow.

You have described the depressive mind quite accurately in this poem. Sometimes life just gets too hard and weighs heavily on our shoulders and it seems that we just wander from one woe to another with bad luck becoming our shadow. It takes a monumental effort to overcome such thoughts but life is too precious to just throw away regardless of our woes. The repetition used reinforces the desperation of the feelings felt. Well portrayed.

Are you a fan of Tommy Tutone? Because you should be. If it makes you feel any better, everybody feels like a piece of s**t sometimes, those who can find a few undigested peanuts and come out with an insightful outlook tend to better than most.

What the f**k do I know though? I've been either drunk or stoned everyday since 2009. Arf.

I've always wondered if there was somebody out there unlucky enough to have that number.

This offering gives a chilling portrait of a mind caught in that dangerous symptom of depression called distorted thinking. It is a phase in which the mind feeds on its worst negative thoughts, driving the awareness ever deeper into depression. This is the kind of mindset in which people kill themselves, and so I sincerely hope this poem is not autobiographical.
