Morning Prophecy

Morning Prophecy

A Poem by Michelle Chiafala
"

I am tied to you in ways that defy logic.

"
 Today, a woman told me that I knew you in a past life;
in a diner at five AM, while I stirred my cup of black coffee,
and stared at a photograph of you. (I lose myself in your eyes.)
I hope for my sake that she was at least a medium,
and not just another looney tossing around the mysteries
of life as if it’s weightless. (If only you would take a look around you…)
The prospect is indeed absurd, but why then
do you come to me in dreams on the days in which I unravel?
Within those dreams we exist in centuries before us.
We live like royalty, and you press kisses upon my skin
as soft as a painter’s brushstroke on canvas.
I am left with a mind bursting with inquiries;
but I do know this: I am tied to you in ways that defy logic.
Though we are separated by hundreds of miles,
and lives altered by free will, we have a vinculum, unbroken.
