Daddy, Why Don't You Love MeA Poem by Megan CyrulewskiMy daughter's father hasn't seen her in over two years. I wish I knew why.
I was born with ten fingers and ten toes,
A beautiful smile and your nose. I grabbed your finger with five of mine, Daddy, can’t you see how I shine? I started my new school today, I met new friends and we all love to play. The Daddy-Daughter dance is coming up soon, Daddy, do you want to dance in the light of the moon? Years later, I walk across the stage, In my cap and gown, I’m coming of age. When you don’t come, I start to cry, Daddy, did you even try? I look down the aisle and tears roll down my face, My Uncle enfolds me in his arms in a loving embrace. I take his arm and grasp my bouquet, Daddy, why aren’t you here on my wedding day? When I was younger, I asked about you a lot, “I guess you were busy” was my constant thought. I was always there for you to see, Daddy, why don’t you love me? © 2014 Megan Cyrulewski |
