Shadow's story

Shadow's story

A Chapter by Denisa Matei

When I entered the room I was hoping that I will find a place similar with the library. But once I turned on the lights, I realized that I was wrong. The room wasn't as I expected it to be. It looked just like one of those rooms in the haunted houses from movies, where the main character was challenged to spend a night.

All the furniture was covered with white sheets filled with dirt. The book shelves were broken and they looked like their gonna fall. The books were full of dust and they were covered by huge spiders webs where there were still  dead insects.

In the middle of the room was a small glass table on which was placed a book with gold covers, which was locked with a tiny padlock. Near it was a small key. After I got the sheets off of  the leather sofas, I took the key in one hand and book in another, and then I opened the padlock.

I cleaned the dust from the pages and then I started reading. From what I saw in the preface, the book tells the whole story of a boy named Shadow. He was the son of very rich family  and he lived a carefree life. His mother loved him a lot, but it seems that he felt no love from his father, because his father worked and traveled everyday, just because he wanted to mentain his luxury life. Also, from what I understood, Mr. Williams, Shadow's, never loved him because he was more different than the rest of the family. Everyone said that he was emo, but they were all wrong. He had a great personality. Shadow was always a cheerful boy and he had a lot of friends. He loved people and would do anything to help someone if that person had problems. Well, Shadow never cared what the others thought aboout him. His mother loved him and it was what he needed the most. When he was 18 years old, he had a girlfriend who cheated on him with his older brother.

Because of his love for that girl, he took a decision. He tried to kill himself. His mother, desperate to save her beloved son, she talked to one of her friends. Even if the doctors told her that her son will die son, that friend said that he knows how to save the boy. That man was a vampire. A few days later, Shadow was bitten by that vampire and he finally woke up from the coma.

A few months later, because he was really hungry and because he couldn't stop his hunger with normal food, he has bitten his familly and they became vampires. After this, his father hated him even more, but he  couldn't do anything because his wife always saved the boy. Over time, Shadow became more depressed and he was trying as much as possible to ignore his family. Always went out alone to hunt and he ignored his relatives. When he saw his son's behavior, Mr. Williams decides that it is time for Shadow's wedding. He also choosed a girl. The boy refused, and because he was really nervous, his father burned his own wife, accusing her of her son's behavior, then he called a witch who pulled out Shadow's soul and put it in a book whose pages were completely blank. Once the soul was placed there, on each page of the book appeared some texts that were actually Shadow's life exactly as he wanted it to be in reality. And before she closed the book, that witch put a spell on the first page. That spell was necessary if someone actually wanted to release the vampire. And if that would happen, the vampire will be able to travel between the two worlds, the real world and the world from the book, whenever he wanted.

What can I say? That story scared me a little and a deep feeling that comes from my heart makes me take the book home and read the whole story boy. And from what I saw in the description. I don't think  that a soul will come out and take me with him. Anyway, I left the room and went to the woman with whom I spoke earlier.

"I want this book!" I said smiling slightly.

For several seconds, the old women looked at me scared and then she took the book and put the stamp on it.I took the book and when I was walking towards the exit I heared that old lady say:
"Cursed, you will be cursed if you open the book and that vampire will destroy your life!"

I didn't look back at her, I just continued to walk.
