What am I?

What am I?

A Poem by Kira
"

i moved in the fifth grade came from a very diverse place, military base because my daddy was in the military, then coming here to where there are less than thirty other non white families it was wow.

"
It might get better he isn't here anymore
The gravel lacerates the heel of my sneaker
the cool breeze brings the sent of rose, mint and home with an undertone of hate
we squeal at the though of freedom
Home is a fix'er up'er but its safe
a shout of disgust resonates through the air
as a blanket covers me i fall to the floor peeking out
waves of red and white with blue Xs flow in the breeze

Running out of the first day of fifth grad
i understand that i am different

In eighth grade I know why
i don't blend in with the night or the walls

The dreaded question is asked.
" What are you?
all the glares, whispers, giggles flood my mind

What am I?
WHAT am I?
WHAT AM I?
A chocolate vanilla twist
a sad Oreo
an abomination
the failed offspring of the day and night
a coffee spill on ice cream?
NO
I am not an alien
I am not a toy
I am a mixed girl
I am Kira Alexandra Washington
