EPHEMERAL

EPHEMERAL

A Poem by Mia Sparrow

i believe that all love's ephemeral

feeding and bleeding

constantly needing

some may even say it's chemical.

in those three words the world is mistaken

they're sometimes used for selfish ends

perhaps one says it to make amends

they'll say their love will never be shaken.

forever's a concept taken as literal

here, blind faith is fatefully tested

hope, dispossessed and lamentably divested

to those that abide, acceptance is critical.

beware the one who bestows adulation

everyone changes, everyone grows

in light the truth inevitably shows

thus resulting in quiet desolation.

words proclaimed in passion's throes

only leads to futile anticipation.
