dodge.

dodge.

A Poem by Meredith C. Hunter

sharp, quick: my heart;
exerting frenzied breaks of escapism,
the perfect relief of defenselessness.
body limp,
head light,
Barely here
: how I long to feel as the wave of anxiety
overtakes, overcomes;
No. I'd rather the obvious option of none of this happening at all.
But here I am again, hurt and weak as always.
So I squeeze my hands shut tight.
inhale,
exhale,
overcoming the tears and telling myself it'll be alright.
