Obsession

Obsession

A Poem by ray
"

this totally isn't about anyone. . .

"
Your eyes dig into my heart,
My soul yearns for you.

I frolic in the fields of sadness I feel without you.
Every word that slips off of my lips reminds me of your lovely figure,
A mystifying haze that distracts me from who you truly are.

I wish you heard my desperate pleas,
Longing for you to come to me.

I want you here, ever so much.
I'd give the ultimate sacrifice, for only of what my heart tells me.
You're worth it.

Can you see how much I suffer because of you?
I hate you so much.

Oh, but how I love you.
A conflicting saga is shared between us,
Droning on and on, holding my attention like the breath exiting your mouth.

I want our lips to touch.
Be mine, please. I need you.

Don't leave me here. I'm stuck without your presence and state of mind you put me in.
If i'm left alone, without you. . ,
I don't know what I ever will do.

• Your eyes dig into my heart, My soul yearns for you.

And I love you, except...do I know you?

My point? What reader is sitting at the keyboard hoping to learn how you feel about someone unknown?

"I love you...I hate you..." Does a reader care? No, because you're the stranger who sits next to us on the bus and begins to talk about their life. Do we applaud or move away? See the problem?

Our goal isn't to make the reader know how we feel. It's to make the reader feel. And that takes a very different approach. Instead of telling the reader we cried at a funeral, we give the reader reason to weep. We make them feel, and care, not be better informed on our life.

Dig into the skills of the poet. There's a lot to it. My suggestion is to download Mary Oliver's, A Poetry Handbook, from the link just below. Lots of people swear by it:
