Eyes Like Bottles

Eyes Like Bottles

A Poem by Michael Hess
"

I dedicate this poem to my best friend Derek, who just couldn't take life anymore. To friends lost, but never forgotten.

"

You have eyes like bottles,

Spilling everything,

Your dirty little secrets,

All those moments you regret.

I've seen your lies

And all the deaths you die inside

When things don't go your way.

But there will be other days...

Other days will come

When the glass bottles break

And you think that you have reached

All the pain that you can take.

You're not alone,

at least that's what they say.

But just give me time,

I'm on my way

To help you make it

Through another day.

I've gone through it too,

And I know why

You think nothing

Will be alright.

I still relive it

From time to time,

Trying my best

To keep my mind.

But look down below,

It's such a long fall,

You'll have time to rethink,

To regret it all...

The moments before,

And the ones before that.

A few seconds later,

You can't take it back.

So trust me on this

And just take my hand.

Let me help you

Wake up and stand.

Life can cause pain,

And I know it gets hard,

But don't let your eyes like bottles

Turn into glass shards.

You had eyes like bottles.

They spilled everything,

Your dirty little secrets,

All the moments you'd regret.

I saw your lies

And all the deaths you died inside

When things didn't go your way.

There would have been other days...

"You're not the only one",

They say, "You're not the only one."

You could've had a better life,

But pain made you jump the gun.

I know what you were afraid of.

It still scares the hell out of me.

But you really weren't alone back then.

You always had me..
