Garbage Truck FeelingsA Poem by Michelle GentA poem about the tragic death of my brother-in-law
Garbage Truck Feelings-
I woke up to the sound of birds squawking and garbage trucks Sounds so apropos, sounds to fit my mood drudgery, anxiety, despair That followed me into today A mood that struck me the prior afternoon When I got the news that you were gone Taken unexpectedly in a tragic accident An accident that could have been prevented While you were working on cars doing what you loved You were underneath a work truck Making repairs, when a coworker got in Unknowingly and drove away, not knowing what he did The impact of this mistake and what it did to our entire family Affecting your life, a life you loved Surrounded by loved ones Your animals 8 cats, 1 lizard and 4 macaws Birds, birds that squawked and you loved You loved them and they were yours Yours and your wives babies A life that was so tragically taken and cut short And now I lie awake at7 A.M. staring at the ceiling Listening to the squawking of the birds The same birds that when I called on the phone You'd scream at them to shut up, so you could hear me A sound that was so comical at the time A sound that will never sound the same ever again © 2015 Michelle Gent |
