A Tribute

A Poem by Kimberly R. Larkins
"

honoring our own first read for an annual national day prayer breakfast of several hundred people

A Tribute

To the men and women whose lives are shaped by every fire call,
Every search and rescue mission, every criminal investigation.
To the men and women who fight battles,
On the home front and on foreign soil.
To the men and women guarding our coastlines,
And to those keeping our airways safe.

It’s not enough to say ‘thank you’ for your willingness to give all.
It’s not enough to praise and applaud your brave efforts.

For you deal with unimaginable tragedy, and unspeakable atrocities.
Yet you persevere. You endure. You stand steadfast.
You get the job done.

Men and women of valor,
Your sacrifice is appreciated.
Your dedication – not taken for granted.

You are all men and women of valor.

May you always find refuge in God.
God as your fortress, God as your shield,
God as the protector of your soul.

First responders – we honor you.
Military units – we honor you.
We honor all of you.

We pay tribute to you with these words,
But always remember, God’s word will carry you through.
God’s word will protect you.
God’s word will comfort and strengthen you.

May you walk in God’s word.
