Farfetch'd

Farfetch'd

A Poem by Mike Espinosa

I had just turned three months old.
My mother looked at me- those dead eyes,
she icily said, "Show me you're worth it."
She pushed me out of the nest, my only home.
She watched; I screamed, flapping at the wind.
I didn't know where it was, I'd plummet.

I think I saw God watching me fall that day-
His loving arms extended toward me.
Yet when I approached Him, at the end of my trip,
He vanished and I crashed to the ground.
I rose and discovered my new broken leg,
quickly found a leek to cover my limp.

I looked back up at the home I left,
knowing I'd never return to that height.
I've tried flying several times since then,
but see that disheartened look each time
I now walk everywhere I need to travel.
I avoid ponds, since my reflection is wretched.
People say I look sad and I explain, but-
they tell me my story is far-fetched.

Wow, I really like this. It's sad yet a struggle, and it really made me think.
