because i love you

because i love you

A Poem by Michael Howell

Is this what We are? Truly?
A splatter of rain and dust
on the once glorious, once clear
Window of love?
As I waste away in labor and sickness
You really can’t find the time?
Every little instance, insubstantial alone
gather in a pool of forgotten.
You ask, why I do this.
Ask yourself, you’ll find the answer
deep within the misconceptions of
Your own heart.

I give, I give, and what do you do?
Shove it back in my face!
You show me all your little boys
that latch to your wrists like leeches
trying to get a rise out of me
But is that really what you want?
No, you don’t!
YOU DON’T!

The splatter of rain is baking in the hot son,
Love,
And no one is to blame but you.
Although you may see the opposite
side of this life, I don’t. I see
You, alone. You, alone, love.
Is this what you want?
No, you don’t.
YOU DON’T.
