Losing Water Weight

Losing Water Weight

A Poem by Arly Parent

you don't need water to feel like you're drowning
you just need air and words

you don't need water to feel like you're drowning
you just need tests and numbers and inordinately large sums of money you'll need to pay off after 4 years...forever

you don't need water to feel like you're drowning
just needy hands and ears deafened to the sound of no, the eyes of no, the rigid of no

you don't need water to feel like you're drowning
you're made of gallons of the stuff---63%
...62.8%
...62.6%
...

I know. I know. Using like in this manner is terrible but colloquially, it just sounds better. The syllables fit better also.

About
There's nothing about me. I play with pauses as well as silence. I write words, assign meanings and junk, and play with a language that might be as much my own as another. I don't know. more..
