Embrace Yourself

Embrace Yourself

A Poem by Heath Mindy

You Don't See Yourself the way God does.
Look back at you:
The way
You
Was!
You did not see yourself then, and you do not see yourself now,
You listened to wrong voices, watched your peers, lost your wow.
Remember when you were a child?
Running free, glad and wild?
You washed your face, behind those ears,
You didn't have all those unusual peers.
You probably hardly viewed the mirror,
You didn't even examine your interior.
You were thankful and peaceful and glad to be
Then you listened to things that made you wonder,
About me?
You watched a show, you don't know?
Something made you choose-
You didn't know, you'd loose!
Now you lost your way, doesn't matter, what ever was that day
Something you saw, or something someone who mattered did say?
Whatever it was, it is gone now, you are here.
You can look and see yourself, and not fear-
Don't compare yourself to anyone you know,
Don't wonder how you got here, fact is, people grow.
Imagine you are not your own, although you are your own person. Their is no one like you.
In ways they are, perhaps you have your father's nose, or mother's eyes of blue,
Perhaps you are a spitting image of an ancestors photo you recently discovered so true.
Yet you wear different clothes, and hair,
You live in a different generation,
So there,
You are not the same person, you are not reincarnated, although you may wonder at that?
You have an entirely new life, you wear a completely different hat.
Maybe it's your weight, you are skinnier or fat?
Do you need to add something to highlight your look?
Do you look at styles and fashions of what diction or book?
In summary when you were a child, you did not make choices so much
Your parents decided, what you ate, what you wore, and what you were allowed to touch.
Perhaps a fear you were not ready, and you might slip and break that vase.
You are an adult now, perhaps you have been for quite a while, and no longer is this,... the case.
You have to decide.
You cannot hide.
You are specially made.
Soon the person you are,
Is going to fade.
Yet memories you have of you, are daily becoming new.
Choices you make from inside out, makes you YOU!
You can see what others do and hear what others think
Yet you decide what is true, and choose not to stink!
Yet if you choose to support a lie, or mess up your thinking with a pill or drink...
You won't get very far in living a life, meant to be special for you, and gone in a wink.
There really is no other you, and yes it matters what you think and do.
Yet you alone must get the drift, this truth is time you did uplift.
You have responsibility as a grown up now.
You were protected, or perhaps not, ADULT TAKE A BOW!
Decide who you want to be, inside and out, and embrace yourself a
WOW!
