Midas/Medusa II

Midas/Medusa II

A Poem by hanzabonanza

I bought myself
A new ring
To celebrate
My Birthday

At first
I was drawn
To its
Sparkling
Gold hue

The way it
Jumped out
Of the
Others

Shining brightest
Best

It appeared
At first so
Simple
Uncomplicated

Yet looking
Closer I
Could see its
Fine engravings
Shimmer
Underneath

After time
I realised
The ring was not
Circular
Infinite

It was linear

It had a start
And an end

It was alive

Or perhaps once had been

A golden serpent
With two emerald eyes

Before this I had
Worn it on my
Wedding finger

Who am I kidding?
I thought after a while

Moving it to the middle
For balance

Later I grew stronger
More aware

My own eyes weren't fake jewels
They were seeing
For the first time

Every single detail

I now wear it
On my index finger

I see you

I'm pointing you out
For what you are

Never again will
I be so blinded

Around your finger
Like this ring

Blind and begging in the
Dirt for forgiveness
