A Poem by Patty Neff
"

This is a prayer to God.

"

Open my eyes so that I may see

The beauty and the sunshine

Show me the ways that I do not know

That lie beneath my very own feet

Open my ears so that I may hear

Truth and veracity that seem to hide from me all so well

Show me way to honor their will

That I may live more peacefully

Open my mouth so that I may always speak

Of kindness and generosity from my heart

Show me the way to those in need

That I may fill their lives with hope

Open my heart so that I may feel

The love and passion of a lifetime

Show me the way to my very own soul

That has been covered up by life itself

Open the doorways to wisdom and knowledge

That escape me just as I begin to grasp them tightly

Show me how to live burdened with this power and pain

Let me always be true to your light

There is some raw emotion in this piece. I like that. The structure gets in the way for me. There wasn't a flow or bounce to the writing to make it really grab me. Since I don't get some spoken poetry at times [admittedly] I look for other elements where I can relate. The emotion and the word usages are nice. You certainly convey a longing for service, for more, a desire for help, ... almost a pleading. I see good potential in what you are writing. Keep at it.

Cheers!
Doc.

love that - show me how to live burdened? that is such a fantastic concept, i want to remember that idea.

"Open my mouth so that I may always speak

Of kindness and generosity from my heart"

those were some of my favorite lines. some of the lines were a bit awkward- where the syntax sort of makes the reader 'trip' over the words, but thats nothing a little editing/tightening couldn't fix.

a powerful and beautiful prayer :)

hugs
