relentless is the sun

relentless is the sun

A Poem by Christopher Withers

"
relentless is the sun,
it's attention catches me
bears down upon me, and
in doing so, traps me in the glare
of such unimaginable scrutiny,
so that i can almost hear it burning,
roaring, throwing out it's heat
(and voice) into the void.
in doing so,
it imparts upon me an unwanted gift,
wrapping me, catching me,
cloaking me in uncomfortable heat.
such gifts are not free, and
as demanded, tears of sweat
(lifes own blood)
breach my skin, and fall
attempting to quench the baking earth
lying bleached and hard underfoot.
under such action,
straining, the sky breaks,
dissolving away at its apex
into a sea of near black.
