jelly eyed look

jelly eyed look

A Poem by Christopher Withers

"
moist jelly eyes
glisten against the sun,
hungrily sucking at each image
which unfolds before them.
flesh, sagging, pinned and stretched
across bone frame, lumbers
on meat sack legs, undertaking
self created, time consuming tasks.
on occasion each flesh sack
spits and slobbers, grunting compliments
at others and their (unchosen) looks,
as if each blue eye, dark stained hair
defined cheek bone, are anything but
predetermined structures, pinnacles
of mindless math - for this instance at least
yet
such hollow achievements
will surely dictate a lifetime.
