In Search Of Life

In Search Of Life

A Poem by S

In the hope of contentment

We traveled miles and miles

Only to find

What we had left behind

Was the only thing worth keeping.

In the hope of a fortune

We saved every change

And spent all our youth

Only to discover

No gold could buy the memories

we wished we had to remember.

In the hope of shelter

We’d spent many a nights

Restless in the sojourns

Only to realize,

The place we searched

Was where our hearts were fine.

In the hope of freedom

We have left everyone behind

Only to learn

The liberty was naught

Without the love of the ones we just lost.

Thanks a lot for reading :)
The content is great and something I agree with but please look into the flow of it... I wish I could read it in one go rather than four.
Also, third stanza: "was 'where' our hearts..."
Please look into it, this is such a thoughtful piece.

Flow is something that comes naturally...I will have to work on that...

I surely will, thanks :)
It has quite a nostalgic one with a pinch of tragedy embedded into it. Somehow I believe that every pursuit and every journey whether take you to the desired destination is not sure but one thing we can sure make sure of is that the lessons are learned. A poem with layers but relevant to everyone.

Rather than 'fathom' I'd use 'learn.'

Thanks for the correction. "learn" sounds much better.
