you

you

A Poem by Michael Nava

I thought  about you today,
about the last time we were together.
When I held you for the last time
Lying restful and safe in my arms.

I could see the sadness in your eyes,
as I looked at you .
Your head gently resting upon my chest, our hearts
beating as 1.

Silent were our words,
As a Tear rolled down your cheek
I never thought  id hurt this way, but
your tears broke my heart.

My heart cries out to you as you press your ear against my chest.
Cries of love, love that I’ve had for you since that first time I saw you.
Love that I will always have for you, for as long as I live.

Our bodies begin to separate
It’s time for us to go.
You leave my arms and slowly walk away..
Forever depriving me of someone I truly loved and cared about.

As I turn away I gave you one last smile.
A smile of love and of hope
Hoping that you’ll never forget me or
the times we shared together.
Hoping that one day I’d see you again and hold you for another time.

I think what I find most endearing about this piece is that it is a poem I can relate to, and I'm certain many others can as well. Setting the minor grammatical errors aside, you did a wonderful job, my friend. Good work.
