Little Boy Blue

Little Boy Blue

A Poem by Jacqueline

Little Boy Blue

He hid in the closet

Eyes peering through the

crack of the door

Footsteps frightened him

He didn’t want feel the pain

anymore

Behind boxes

his slight form is

trembling in fear

A voice gets louder

causing a trickling waterfall

of tears

His hands clasped together

A whispered prayer he hopes is

heard

As the doorknob is turned-

outside his tiny fortress are louder

words

A commotion is erupting

Still, in his hiding place he sits

Does he dare click on his flashlight?

All of sudden things are eerily quiet

He waits for awhile before making a

move

He quickly darts from his safe little room

Up the stairs and through the halls

Ignoring voices as his name is called

A window is opened, billowy smoke

encases his room

Outside many cry and speculate on his doom

He lit the matches

Not by accident-but with intent

No more foster homes

being left alone

or broken bones

Curled on the floor he sang

sweet lullabies

until the angels cried

And then he died

oh, wow! You've taken Field's classic by the same title and turned it on its ear in such a modern way.

And, as he was dreaming, an angel song
Awakened our Little Boy Blue-
Oh! the years are many, the years are long,
But the little toy friends are true!

Great write!
