Castlevania Revisited

Castlevania Revisited

A Poem by Mohl083

Choirs would exclaim his name

Through the halls of obsidian cathedrals

While he impaled armies at sunset,

Erecting a forest of men.

The frail torso

Breached by a wooden spike

So the Son of the Dragon

Could savor his flesh

In the shade

While serenaded

By the buzzing of flies.

Castles rise to the steps of heaven

And collapse by the gates of hell

Within that time

A man erases his name

From the blood stained pages of history,

Transforming into legend.

His name uttered only

In the hushed corners of dark rooms

By fool hearty men

Who ignore the danger

Scratching its claw against the window.

Even the damned can find love

In the soft bosom of Innocence.

Her skin void of blemish

And fairer than the loathsome hide

Bleached by centuries suppressed

In his sunless crypt.

Blood condemned by the almighty hand

Mixes with the fluid

Saved by the sacrificial lamb

On the altar of the skull.

An heir to ascend

To the throne of chaos

And to suffer the extinction

Of a mother’s love.

A king and a prince

Sustained by blood and revenge

Entwine their fates once more

Through the binds of the familiar ally and adversary.

When the father lies

In the coffin and dirt of his homeland

Then the son can rise

From the shadows of his name

To behold the mother

Welcomed into God’s arms at last.
