Unusual

Unusual

A Poem by Molly Garnet

How dare you brush it off as “usual”
As if my life is easy
And I’m just dramatic
And everyone faces the same dilemmas
Because it’s far from that
It runs much deeper than annoying siblings
And inadequate parents
Disappointing grades
And a failure every once in awhile
I could never explain it
Because you’d never understand
So just brush it off as “usual”
As if you’ve been in my shoes
I can assure you, you haven’t
And I’m glad that’s the case
You’d be traumatized
People don’t understand
Because I don’t let them see
The reality kills me
And I’m weak if I bring it up
Because after all
It’s usual
I can handle myself
And smile through it all
And write “poetry” with a fake name
It’s much easier than explaining
My ordinary problems to the jury
