Red Lights

Red Lights

A Poem by Chuck

I settle for the red lights,

that pierce

the dark sky and and find their way

through the windshield and onto your

face. You are focused, and

so am I, because the wind through

the windows and the choking hum

of an aged machine are quiet, but

they still drown out the words

on that old radio leaving me the blanks

to fill in. Yeah, you're right that I don't

always say what I mean to. So

I will settle for red lights,

and I will show you that I will

always be afraid to say

Goodbye.
