Pack It Up, Pack It Up

Pack It Up, Pack It Up

A Poem by mondaymornings

Pack it up, pack it up
We can see the world
Meet me on every single plane
You take the window seat; I’ve seen it all before
I just want to sit beside you,
as you take it all in, as you’ve never seen this before

My, oh, my, this has been my life for so long...
But it’s never been quite complete
I’ve seen it all, at least twice, maybe even four times...
How can this world be so cruel?
Why haven’t I been able to share this with you?

I was supposed to meet you twenty years ago,
back when we were simply ten
back when the world was big and the world was good
What happened to it?
What happened to us?
Where did our innocence go?
How did it all just simply disappear?

I want to scream, I want to fight
But more than anything, I want to take you on a flight
I’ll never forget the way you were sitting there at that bar
I’ll always remember that city, not because I was there -
There has always been cities, but this was the only one, you were ever always in
You were crouched over in your chair
Holding onto your drink with one hand, you played with your hair with the other
I knew I would never forget you, from even before I sat down there next to you

I offered to take you anywhere, but you just wanted to talk
You encaptured me within your thoughts about the world
and you amazed me by how big your dreams were
We were so alike, a match made, a perfect pair
How could the world be so cruel

Pack it up, pack it up
Just come with me, on a plane, and please don’t leave
I know we have different dreams, but dreams change
Tears are pouring down her face and it breaks my heart
I’m silently begging her with my eyes,
please don’t pack it up, please don’t pack it up

Three calls, and you pick up
I say, I’m on a plane, with an empty window seat beside me
It was too painful to see anyone else sit there,
so I bought it just in case someone else would have
I used to dream about the planes, the cities, the people, and the world
Then it became my dream, and still I realized there was something missing

So believe me when I say that dreams change
Pack it up, pack it up
Please meet me on this plane
