The Dive

The Dive

A Poem by Monday Parker

I dove into a spider web laced basin…

My eyes wide open

Arms loosely by my sides…

Nothing to prevent me from smashing

My face into the uneven surface

I dove

Knowing the results, the outcome.

Head first

Straight to the bottom with a thud.

But the fall...

The fall was enchanting

The rush of air felt so nice

Encircling me all the way down

Intoxicating

Such a short leap...and yet it consumed my every thought.

But the floor came fast

 Now here I am

Twisted pile of choices made.

And the only way out is up....
