Clear Haze

Clear Haze

A Poem by Monday Parker

He said the truest words last night

In his intoxicated haze.

He said “I am not good for anyone right now”

I believe him

Yet, I have been chasing after him for two months now

While he openly disregards me

Directly in my face

With no need to shelter his actions

And week after week.

I waited by my phone for him to

Execute more suffering

I eagerly picked up his calls

While he ignores mine

I told him last night while we sat in the

Quiet space of my candle lit living room

He was inflicting damage to me

I think he understood something

Briefly in that moment.

Of the pain he’s causing

With his games and careless disregard of me

He hung his head low…

Nodded in understanding

He didn’t say another word

Just headed for the door.

I let it close quietly…Symbolizing

The end of this chapter for me

Replaying his words.

“I am not good for anyone right now”

My stinging emotions and ragged dreams

I agree with him.

And he is not good for me.

I left the door closed.
