Face Down

Face Down

A Poem by Monday Parker

I see you set your phone face down

Close out screens when I get close

Its constantly vibrating with text messages

Glowing with notifications

And my alert goes up

Red flags of warning which evolve day by day

Until they’re a parachute

Completely engulfing me

Causing my anxiety and discouragement to swell

Until I’m hunched over quietly sobbing in the shower

Stress making its impact on my winter skin

Red and angry

In a moment of clarity

I stop

Take a deep breath in

And muse….

Are these the protective walls I securely build and hide behind?

That self-sabotage separation

Always looking for reason to flee

F*****g Sagittarius

That was always me in the past

Searching for chipped edges of the

Perfect picture just to say its broken.

Is this me looking for a reason

Or my intuition warning me to listen.

Really cool. I like how this one talks to me, I can almost hear the voice cracking and the uncertainty of the situation flowing through on heavily released breaths. You have captured this feeling well. I only hope this is just a creative imagination and not a real happening because that would suck. Nicely done.
