Seventeen

Seventeen

A Poem by Monday Parker

It wasn’t the fact the kids stayed over

I like it when they are here

Our family feels whole

Even though we are snugly packed in our home

And they stay in their rooms

I like it when they are here

The reason I got upset was the

Mention of your seventeen years

I know the history

But the reminder cut sharply

You know her

I imagine better than you know me

In our defense we haven’t know each other

Four years yet

Your Knowledge of her is something I can’t contest.

Seventeen years

Of a relationship that is no more

I know that’s the end of the chapter.

But hearing of the story

Stirs emotions difficult to express.

Neither really Insecurity or Jealousy

More like not understanding a language you speak.

A forgotten dialect

Linguistics from the dead

And still the knowledge stays

Sometimes need to speak it

Its neither Insecurity or Jealousy

……..Or maybe its both.
