Closing Doors

Closing Doors

A Poem by Monday Parker

I remember looking into your

Deep brown eyes

And seeing eternity

Seeing the eyes of our future children

Looking back at me from within

I remember how your love shook me

Tremors of lust and enchantment

The feeling of

This is what love is all about.

You were what I have been waiting for

All that time

I felt like I found it

My destiny –My happy ever after.

Then when the rain started

I reached for you

for balance

for support

Only you took your mask off

Once you had drained me of  all my goodness

Once you sucked up the best of me

With your soulless straw

You leave me now

In a deflated heap on our stained bedroom floor

You step over my quivering limbs as you walk out

Leaving me to reel over the mistakes I made

And the true love I gave away

Trading her in for someone better I heard you say

While you shut the door behind you…

Once you had drained me of all my goodness
Once you sucked up the best of me
With your soulless straw -- Wow. Great imagery!

In a deflated heap on our stained bedroom floor
You step over my quivering limbs as you walk out -- You make this very visible.

Damn! You wrote something that I definitely felt....nicely done.
Great job, in fact.

i liked the transition in moods in the middle. this painted a very dark picture; it was unique though and unlike other heartbreak poetry i've read. nice write.
