Transfer of Emotion

Transfer of Emotion

A Poem by Monday Parker

Ah the transfer of emotion

First its he

Then I

We go back in forth

Who’s sad

And who doesn’t care.

We go back again

He is sad

And I am moving on

Then when I am crying

He is walking in with a smirk..

This transfer of emotion

With him and I

A roller coaster of turmoil

That we take turns trying out each side

This transfer of emotion

This roller coaster we are riding on.

You make that all-too-frequent roil between intimates sound like a game of ping-pong -- before you call it a roller-coaster ride. I guess because it's an almost comically rendered back and forth, the transfer part. A roller-coaster, tho' purportedly an amusement park ride, is a more bodily up and down. It's as if the metaphor transfers from a to and fro to an up and down. Of course feelings do both. Now if you went up in separate cars, and JUMPED from one to the other as they plummeted down the track. . .;-)

And yet a third metaphor suggests itself in the "transfer," as in a bus or subway ride. . .

This is not really a critique -- it's a transfer of loco-motion. . .

I like the rollercoaster analogy tho it seems to me that you're talking more about to and fro of emotional states rather than the 'transfer' of either of your emotional states and how it effects the other.. this is an earnest poem and I thankyou for your earnesty :)
