Burning Bridges

Burning Bridges

A Poem by Monday Parker

I am burning bridges left and right

With the careless matches I flick

With the gasoline I carry in my cup

Standing on my pedestal

 Inspecting them ignite and glow

As each of the burning bridges descend

My motive unclear

My thoughts unresponsive

Well that’s not 100% true I looked at a pile of ash that

Use to be a connection of mine, thoughts of what could have been

Circle my mind

Feeling a ping of regret for letting that friend go.

But the time was just not right

And their friendship was hallow

And I am better off with out

Their presences pulling me down

So I let them go

Burning the bridges they crossed.
