Pandora's Jar

i found the jar

hidden away

put far from wandering eyes

i took it

enchanted by its beauty

 

when the jar first opened

it flowed out slowly

but the longer it was open

the more frantically it desired freedom

i knew not of the consequences that entailed

 

i felt the evil spread like forest fire

it was seeping into the world

changing them in more ways than one

the sickness would soon take hold

 

…but wait

at the very bottom

was something

something small and pure

something that had no need to rush;

hope
