Hidden in Your Cave

Hidden in Your Cave

A Poem by Siobhan

Hidden in Your Cave

You are cloaked in brooding quiet, alone
with pain over-shadowing every move.
Flipping between channels, your smile breaks free
a brief second–before being swallowed;
if I'm not quick enough, you disappear.
Whether hidden in your cave by design
or as a refuge from interaction,
I can't tell anymore where you might be
from one moment to the next. You confuse
me with smiles that don't reach out from your eyes.

Your words colored with haphazard anger
scrape along sensitive emotions–mine;
I surround myself with sounds, drowning out
the silence chattering inside my head.
