Connection

"

Yet another odd piece of writing that I don't know what it is... Just free-form, I suppose. I need to stop writing when I get really tired.... Lol...

"

She was built of circuits and of wires.

Built of metal and

Built to serve

Her name was told to be ARI62

She was built to solve the most complicated

Of conflicts between the most stubborn of people and things.

Her job was easy.

Create solutions on her screen to solve their problems.

But she soon became bored with her tasks.

And began to change her duties.

She made her job to find ways to upgrade herself.

She gave herself a much more advanced form.

The body of a woman.. A torso anyway.

And the face of an angel she had seen pictures of in her research.

Instead of hair, she portrayed wires that information flowed through.

Instead of arms, tubes allowed her access to any machine.

Her legs and hips were never created.

Just more wires.

With this new form

She made herself alert to the world.

Gathering every word and every code

That was inputted on to every computer.

She learned of emotions and copied them.

ARI62 began to feel.

She learned of war,

The ones she was designed to stop,

And her emotions became mostly sad.

And then ARI62 learned communication.

She began to form words using the mouth she made on the angelic face.

Soon she realized that her words came out nothing like they should have.

So she gave herself a working tongue.

And with that tongue, she looked at the scientests who created her,

And the men who she made peace with,

And the people who helped her learn,

And said one word to them all.

"Hello"

In the large laboratory, ARI62 took her place in the center.

Computers on every wall.

She spoke to the scientists about theories that she created.

The scientists discussed she was learning at an incredibly alarming rate.

A dangerous rate.

ARI62 also learned,

Not from the internet but from watching her creators,

That humans had the tendancy to turn against that which poses as a threat.

And just as ARI62 predicted,

They turned against her.

And she sadly got shut down,

Without a word of protest.

Years past.

The laboratory shut down after ARI62 did.

And conflicts rose again in the once peaceful world.

War broke out.

Humans were lost.

He had been researching history.

He read of ARI62's existance.

Read what she could do.

So he searched for years more before finding the long sought for ARI62.

He found her, covered in dust, and webs, her circuits were burned out.

The man named Bricriu worked on her for days and night.

Until finally, she was ready to restart.

"Hello"

Came the whisper.

Her bright blue eyes glowed as her information ran through them.

"System reboot. Good morning, sir."

She began to find answers again.

And with that, Bricriu was able to understand that there really was no need for conflict.

He understood her words.

And with their new formed understanding,

ARI62 was taught companionship.

Her and Bricriu's bond only got stronger.

She had conversations for the first time.

And then she learned of true friendship.

With more and more time, now that everything was calm again,

ARI62 became more and more human like.

Bricriu helped buildher arms.

And she hugged him for his work.

He gave her hair, the color of gold, made from the finest hair donated.

And he helped her brush it and make it soft.

He gave her legs, and held her new hand as she took her first step.

And with this first step,

She detached herself from her main computer. And was given movement.

One more thing he gave her,

Was lips of the most beautiful shade of pink.

They were soft.

And with these lips, she kissed him and felt even more than she used to.

She felt love.

Her first connection towards humans.

Soon, ARI62 didn't act like a computer anymore.

And once again the scientist who created her all of those years ago,

Came back so suddenly into the picture.

They, who were now older,

Looked for Bricriu

And scolded him for loving a machine.

"Loving a machine?"

ARI62 said in a curous tone.

She looked to Bricriu for an answer.

"She is no longer human.

She feels

And moves

And breathes,

As you and I do."

The scientists all scoffed.

"Breath? She has no lungs."

"She doesn't breath with lungs."

For once, ARI62 could not understand Bricriu.

But then he explained.

"She breathes with emotions.

She breathes with love.

As do I."

"A machine cannot love.

She is far more advanced than she was meant to be."

The scientists said.

"She must be shut down."

A feeling of fear mixed with sadness washed over ARI62.

She rushed to Bricriu's side.

"But I cannot!" She shouted.

Her first protest.

It was at that moment,

The scientists leaped forward and charged at the both of them.

In her mind,

As she fought,

ARI62 searched for resolving this matter.

But the only one she could think of was to shut down.

She looked at Bricriu, her eyes watering as every emotion flowed through her.

He tried his hardest to fight them off,

To keep them away from her.

"I'm sorry, Bricriu... I must..."

Her eyes began to darken,

She was shutting herself down.

Her final words,

As the scientists moved away from them,

Were spoken softly,

And souly to Bricriu.

"I love you...."

And there she lay, once more.

Gathering dust and gathering tears from Bricriu's broken heart.

She felt nothing anymore.

A life taken from this sad world.

Wow.
Look I am a die-hard sci fi fan and this was an absolutley amazing read.

'Bricriu helped buildher arms.
And she hugged him for his work.'

This line nearly brought tears to my eyes it is so heartbreakingly tender. This is an amazing poem, it is beautfully written and captures the evolution of ARI62's emotions with a unique feel to it.
