A Poem by mabel mae

they turn their heads away in disgust,
shaking them in disapproval.
“how can we trust a girl who comes from that?
her home,
her stars,
they cannot compare to our cities,
our planets.
why would we trust a girl like that?”
“did you know sir?
“know what?”
“this home came from love.
these stars came from dreams.
this world came from hands.
and i’m sorry that what i have to offer isn’t enough for you
but it’s damn well enough for me
because i know where all of this came from.”
