Chapter 5 - A New World

"Maiev......I'm sorry......I failed you........I failed Gaia................I failed.......myself."  Aedan thought to himself...

" I don't know where I am anymore...." He kept on thinking

 

"Hey......wake up....." said a mysterious voice.

 

"Huh?"

 

"Wake up now..... HEY WAKE UP!!!!" the mysterious voice said.

 

Aedan woke up and felt that he was lying on a seashore and saw that a girl woke him up. She had long hair and she was wearing a simple dress. She was a few inches shorter than him. He looked at her face and suddenly saw a resemblance of an old friend.

 

"Maiev.....?" Aedan asked the girl who woke him up.

 

He was still lying on the sandy peace of land.

 

"Maiev? Who's Maiev? Me? No I'm not this Maiev that you speak of. My name is Maaya." said the girl to him as she smiled at him. Maaya Sedana, she was the daughter of the village chief of Shylark. Like Kaoru she was 17 years old and she lived in a simple way. She has a nice body figure.

 

"Sorry......Because you really look like my old friend from back home..." Aedan replied.

 

"Really? I do? But I'm prettier right?" Maaya asked him. Aedan gave no answer.

 

"Why are you so serious? Is it something I said?" she asked.

 

"It's none of your business." Aedan answered.

 

"Hey! What's your name?" Maaya asked him.

 

"Aedan." he answered coldly.

 

"Okay Aedan!!! Follow me!!" she said joyfully.

 

"Where?" Aedan asked.

 

"To my village in Shylark!!!! Come on!!!"

 

Maaya took Aedan's hand and they ran to the small village of Shylark.

 

"Hey!!! I got another one!!" Maaya said to her mother as she entered her house.

 

"Another one? What do you mean?" Aedan asked.

 

"You see we found this girl stranded in the same seahore we found you a day ago." Maaya said.

 

"A girl huh?" Aedan said as he saw a familiar face coming down the stairs.

 

"Kaoru?" he thought to himself.

 

"He is here as well?" Kaoru thought with a dissapointed look on her face

 

"Do you two know each other?" Maaya asked.

 

"Kinda" Kaoru said.

 

"Hey Aedan is she the old friend that you were talking about earlier?" Maaya asked again.

 

"No..." Aedan answered in a cold manner.

 

He went to the shore where they were found by Maaya. When he got there he sat down by the sea shore and started to think about his sins. 

 

Aedan was  there alone at the seashore. Now, he began to think about the times that he and Maiev spent together happily. He remembered the particular things that Maiev said..."That's how you see it right?.....Then why are you spending time with me?", "Thanks Aedan.....I also feel something when I'm with you......I feel...Safe.", "You're smiling....you look good when you smile...." and the final thing that he remembered was. "I won't forget you Aedan....I promise." . He reminisced along the seashore.....alone.

 

"Hey" said a familiar voice and he looked at where it came from.

 

He saw Maaya walking towards him and when she got to where Aedan is, she sat down beside him and asked;

 

"Don't you feel lonely being alone here on this seashore?"

 

Aedan gave no answer to her. He was still thinking to himself. She continued to tell Aedan;

 

"I stay here also.....when some things get complicated."

 

He still remained silent to her and gave no answer.

 

"I grew up here....in this village....it's peaceful here, but sometimes, I always wonder what's the world like beyond this place...." she told Aedan

 

She was hoping to get a response from him. Aedan finally spoke to her and said;

 

"Why do you want to explore more if it risks your peaceful state in this village?"

 

Maaya was delighted when she heard Aedan speak and she replied to him;

 

"Yay!! You finally talked...."

 

Aedan didn't react when she said this and then she continued to speak;

 

"Well, I just want to know what's beyond Shylark....you know...Ivalice is a beautiful world....this is where you can see magic and machine working together to form a beautiful and a perfect world."

 

He had heard this before he remembered that Enma told him this.

 

"What if there is a threat to this world?" Aedan asked.

 

"Then that's the guardian's job which in this case is you...." Maaya replied to him and then she smiled at him.

 

He wondered how she knew that he was the guardian.

 

"How did you know that I'm the guardian?" Aedan asked her curiously.

 

"I saw that you were wearing the necklace while you were unconscious along the shore..." she replied.

 

 "And I happen to know what the necklace of the guardian looks like." she added.

 

"Oh...." Aedan said.

 

He just looked at the horizon and continued to think to himself.

 

"You have a difficult task ahead of you." Maaya told Aedan.

 

"I also have a difficult task to accomplish you know." she continued.

 

Aedan asked her; "What task?" Maaya stood up and said; "You'll find out tommorrow....well I better get going. Bye!!" after that she went back to the village. "What does she mean?" Aedan asked himself. Then he went back to the village as well.
