Chapter 8 - Memories

"I never blamed you for my fate.....honestly I never did.....not even once...." Aedan heard this familiar and said. 'Maiev.....I'm sorry....for everything...." he added. "I promised that I would protect you.....but I failed..." he was feeling sorry for himself. "Maiev.........." then he suddenly woke up and noticed that he was in bed. He also noticed that he had few bandages on his body. Then he heard someone knock at the door. It was Maaya. She tended to Aedan's wounds while he was asleep.

 

"Are...you alright now?" Maaya asked him

 

"I'm not sure on what I feel at this moment."  Aedan replied.

 

"Okay.....that wasn't the answer that I was expecting." Maaya replied

 

"What answer were you expecting? Aedan asked her in a very cold manner.

 

 

The way that Aedan answered her made her feel uncomfortable and she was feeling awkward about what she said to him earlier so they did not talk to each other for sometime. She just looked at Aedan's face from a distance. What she saw was a lonely person who is just looking for someone to accept him for who he is. After awhile she tried to talk to him again.

 

"I was expecting you know......" She said

 

"What?" Aedan replied to her coldly.

 

"A thank you or any form of gratitude." Maaya replied.

 

"I'm not really that kind of person....." He said.

 

"What do you mean?" she continued to ask.

 

"I'm not that kind of person who says thank you or other things like that. I just like being by myself because it makes me feel like I am at peace." Aedan told Maaya.

 

"That's one more thing that bugs me.....you like being alone all the time and you separate yourself from others. Why do you do that? Why do like being alone? I've never met a person who likes to be alone until now. You are such a mystery......even for me....." Maaya replied.

 

When Aedan heard her say that he suddenly remembered what Maiev said to him in Gaia. "You're such a mystery even for me...." Aedan sudenly became quiet and tried to forget that he remembered that.

 

"What's wrong?" Maaya asked him. "You became quiet all of a sudden." she added

 

"I just remembered what a friend said to me....." Aedan replied.

 

"Is it the old friend that you were talking about a few days ago?" she asked him

 

"Yeah...." he answered.  "What is she like?" Maaya asked him again.

 

"You know.......you really look like her........like a twin or something...." Aedan replied.

 

"Do I really? Maybe it's just a coincidence." she replied.

 

After that conversation silence grew again. Not because Aedan refused to talk to Maaya, but because there was nothing to talk about anymore. There was along period of silence between the two. Maaya now noticed the upper right eye of Aedan. She saw a scar on the said location of his face.

 

"How'd you get that scar?" she asked him nicely.

 

"I got it from a fight. A guy wearing all black slashed this side of my face." he replied.

 

"That must've hurt  real bad." Maaya replied.

 

"You have no idea..." Aedan said with a tone of sarcasm.

 

She laughed at him and said. "You know sometimes your cold attitude makes me laugh. It makes me want to know you more..."

 

"Why do you want to know me?" he asked.

 

"I wanna be friends with you. Is that a problem?" Maaya asked him.

 

He didn't answer her. He did not know the answer to that question. For the first time ever he was speechless in front of somebody. At his silence he noticed that Maaya took his hand.

 

"What are you doing?" he asked.

 

"I'm gonna look at your palm. There's no harm with that right?" she asked.

 

She proceeded to look at Aedan's hand and she said;

 

"You had a rough childhood, you lost your parents at an early age. You suffered alot. You only consider 2 people special to you." she said.

 

"How did you know that?" Aedan asked.

 

"It's part of my special skill." she said and then she smiled at Aedan. "So.....the 2 special people who are they....?" she continued to ask.

 

"I can only tell you one...." Aedan said.

 

"Go then, tell me..." Maaya said.

 

"Her name is.....Maiev.. she was the old friend that I was talking about....." Aedan told her.

 

"Wow....both of our names start with the letter M." she said.

 

"At first I thought.....she was only there to tell me what my purpose was......but then....we developed a friendship that was like no other.....I loved spending time with her because when she was with me....she made me feel....happy." Aedan said.

 

"What happened to her? Why do you keep on saying that you failed her?" Maaya asked

 

""I promised to protect her and I failed. She perished with Gaia, my old world." Aedan said.

 

"I'm so sorry....." she replied.

 

Aedan gave no answer to her. Maaya asked Aedan a question;

 

"Was she your first girlfriend?"

 

"Kinda......I don' t know really" Aedan replied.

 

"You felt something more for her.....it was more than a like.......you loved her.....didn't you? I can see it in your eyes....the way you say her name......it's different.." Maaya said.

 

"How do you know these expiriences?" Aedan asked her.

 

"Because like you.....I've had a relationship too before.." Maaya said.

 

"With who?" he asked

 

"His name was Elrond. He was my first and only boyfriend, and like you he was appointed as guardian of this world before..." Maaya said.

 

"What was he like." Aedan asked her.

 

"He was an optimistic guy. He had a positive outlook in life. But then it happened. " She replied.

 

"What happened?" he asked.

 

"He had reached the last destination of his adventure. He was almost done with his missiion as the planet's guardian, but he died. He was killed by a man wearing all black. Well at least that's what they told me.  I really felt sad that day. I don't know what I was gonna do with my life without him." Maaya said.

 

"What did you do?" Aedan asked.

 

"I have learned to move on....to be stronger...." she replied. "And now so do you....you need to learn to move on Aedan. I bet that she never blamed you for her fate.....not even once." she said.

 

"Maaya.......I can't.....I can't forget that memory.......That memory has taught me something." he said.

 

"Like what?" she asked him.

 

"I'm weak.....I can't protect anyone who is important to me........" Aedan said

 

"No!! It's not like that!!! I know that you can protect someone. I just know it!!!" she replied.

 

"Please....leave me alone for now......" Aedan said.

 

"Ok.......but think about what I said...." Maaya replied as she left Aedan's room. He thought about what Maaya said to him and after that he went to sleep.
