The holy theme of Kudzai

The holy theme of Kudzai

A Poem by Mufaro Kudakwashe Joseph Mangono
"

I was a teenager then and l would have goose bumps whenever l wanted to ask this girl out.

"

Mugged by my feelings l am confused

Whilst the elite wise men stand amused

At a heart that bleeds but insists to go on

And the blood is washed into the valley Phenomenon

Where it is diluted and heard no more

God looked at the pain and said, “Why?

Who is it? What is it? ...  Oh Kudzai!”

Upon thy palace I sneak

Wishing to find that which I seek

But every time it seems I am transgressed by hate

But every time it seems I am synchronised with fate

And better if it were a trance

But such is not reality has taken a stance

And the narrator says he is afraid to try

For such is the holy theme of Kudzai

And he tried to hide his feelings

Unaware of the hole he was drilling

And he tried to act casual

But he himself knew it was not usual

He tried to murder his feelings, so that hey may be gone

But a martyr they were and remained stubborn

And of his thoughts? He was powerless to not deny them

And persistent was the holy theme of Kudzai

And in heaven angels sing in the cold

For to earth one of them was sold

And the creatures listened to the story being told

Narrated by her beauty that easily unfolds

And her beauty puts jealous on hold

She is undefined but certainly beyond gold

And my soul calls her thy

No wonder every flower blossoms for Kudzai

He tries to pretend but his heart bleeds

And upon seeing his heart feeds

And l do understand it might not be reciprocal

And l do understand it could be a sad protocol

But his heart is convinced will feel better

If he gives her the love within this letter

And all odds he tries to defy

But breathes does the theme of Kudzai

Now l know how dreams can seduce

Now l know how fate is full of prejudice

His heart and soul are in denial

And he stands divided upon an event so crucial

For he does not know if he is worthy

For he does not know if her feelings are healthy

And his soul starts to cry

For it acknowledges the holy theme of Kudzai.
