An Unconventional Goodbye - Father's Day

An Unconventional Goodbye - Father's Day

A Poem by muldoonclare
"

For all those who rest in peace.

"

I missed school today,

And threw away everything you said,

Even if it was unintentional.

You always advised me to be conventional.

But, I have to sweat to own my life and,

As my rock, you commanded me to never lie.

Saying goodbye to you is the most conventional I’ll ever be:

It seems like my love wasn’t a guarantee.

Saying goodbye to you is the worst command of all:

I am sorry the pain was too much in this small town.

I never wanted to scribble these words down about you…

Saying goodbye to you, and this is no lie:

Be sure to join you at one time in God’s old drive-thru,

It’s true, we all have to come a-knocking some time on our Father’s door.

Rest in peace and I'll drink this cheeky wee half on your behalf.

Soon enough, I shall be saying hello.
