Young Love

they’d get off the bus at the same stop
i’d seen them walk home separately
a dozen times before
each day they’d walk a little closer
several days ago
they began speaking with one another
the other day, i saw them walking
considerably slower
yesterday they were laughing so hard, they cried
today…they held hands for the very first time
so full of life and joy
in witnessing their hope, i found my own
