How the Trees Walked

How the Trees Walked

A Poem by Marja W.

How the trees walked

How the trees walked

Standing there day and night

In the thick forest

Nothing to do but stand there

And grow.

Our only goal to reach the sky.

Our only purpose to provide.

Our only view, what was in front of us

Only living in one spot.

Watching as the seasons pass from year to year.

All the others were satisfied.

Satisfied with their patch of dirt.

Satisfied with their inhabitants.

Satisfied with how the snow fell on them

And having to wait for the wind to blow it away when it chose.

Satisfied with their motionless boring lives.

I was tired of waiting.

Tired of being a shelter.

Tired of being confined to the same boring soil.

Tired of having to change with the weather.

Tired of just watching the movement and life around me.

I thirsted for the freedom to move.

I tried to loosen my roots

Stuck in the ground

Like the veins of mother earth.

Slowly I inched out of the tightly packed soil.

Before I knew it I was free.

Freedom from complacency and boredom is a precious gift. I liked the imagery here. Nice job.
