Stay

Stay

A Poem by Via
"

About a guy I know who's going into the Marines when he is 18 and how I don't want to see him go

"

This has to be a dream

Can't be happening

Not now

Who is the poor soul you'll be writing letters to

While fighting in the war that we all know very well

Me?

Her?

Them?

I don't want those guns to fire

I don't want to see that flag on your casket

I don't want you to go

Stay

Even if we don't communicate

Stay

Don't go

The day I see that plane fly into the clouds

Will be the day I regret I took advantage of your feelings

If only you could see

How remorseful I am

How I would never make the same error twice

I could've adored you

When you go off to that war we all recognize and abhor

I want to be the one

The one writing you

But maybe, just maybe

You aren't fighting for our country

You're fighting for yourself...
