You

You

A Poem by Hidden Sunshine

You told me, "You were not them".
I welcomed you in.
We laughed.
We talked and talked.
Talked about our dreams, about "our" futures.
You reached out first, time after time.
You called for no reason, just to talk for hours.
You'd show up unexpectedly.
You'd stay for hours.
You'd stay for days.
You helped when I needed you, you asked for nothing.
You saw me when I was happy.
You saw me when I was sad.
You saw me when I was mad.
You made me happy.
You made sad.
You made me mad.
You held me in your arms.
You held my face when I cried, you wiped the tears.
You said I was worth it.
You said I was amazing.
I opened my heart.
I said that four letter word.
You held me.
You stayed.
We talked.
We laughed.
We grew.
....
You stopped holding me.
You stopped reaching out.
You stopped calling.
You stopped showing up.
You stopped staying.
You stopped helping.
You made me mad.
You made me sad.
You made me miss you.
You made me love you.
...
You disappeared.
...
YOU were them.
