Whispers

excerpt from Heart Sounds

Whispers are heard in the darkness of night,

falling on ears as muttering sounds.

Do we listen close,

or pretend not to hear at all?

Whispers sometimes tickle the ear,

much like a feather floating

from another time

from another place.

Do we giggle in the night

trying not to see or care?

Whispers see ears tilted forward,

honing their gossiping skills.

Do we listen harder,

hoping to hear things we ought not?

Should we turn away,

pretend the gossip wasn’t heard?

Whispers that are soft in the night,

bring love to the heart.

Wagging the tongue in gossiping mode,

brings hurt feelings and pain.

It’s the whisperer who decides

which whispers are heard.
