Titanic Tragedy

Titanic Tragedy

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

Titanic

Titanic Tragedy

All these lifted arms linked together

These numberless feet treading so close!

Arms linked in terror, feet stumbling in fear

One boat to another, they need to transpose

Iceberg adrift in the fog that tragic night

Titanic, the unsinkable met its Waterloo

Crashing into the berg of ice

The great ship sank into the ocean blue

Lifeboats half empty are set afloat

Passengers scuffle, trying to cheat

Should have been women and children first

But the rich had the price to by the next seat

Too many left behind on the ship of doom

Trying to stay alive, but it was not to be

Climbing up high, trying to stay aboard till the end

Titanic upended and slipped silently under the sea

It didn’t creak or rumble, no not a sound

Passengers screams were all that was heard from afar

Survivors in half empty lifeboats listened in horror

Hearing the sounds of death’s moans so bizarre

Whispered prayers from cold water of the deep

They hold tight to floating debris, the soon to be ghosts

All these lifted arms linked together

These numberless feet treading so close!
