![]() First PitchA Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader
First Pitch Pitcher throws his pitch Into the air A fast ball done with flair Whizzing onward it flies His throat tightens As he follows through Glances slightly to look at you But only slightly then his eyes returns Ball scarped suddenly Losing momentum in the air His brown eyes stare At the catcher’s glove No longer a strike Ball landed too low And came in slow Breaking his record He hears the fat umpire Without sorrow calling the ball In slow motions he watches the call He has three more chances to get the out An alphabet of things done wrong Unpolished this eight-year-old Shuffles his feet wanting to be gold Lamentations heard in the stands © 2008 Nancy Lee Shrader |
