The Gift

The Gift

A Poem by Nancy Lee Shrader

The Gift

On a picnic with the family

My sisters and I saw it there

A gift wrapped in sparking design

Tied up in a bow with flair

A hen and her chicks stood near

Our puppy and kitten did too

There was no tag

We wondered what to do

Too pretty to open

To see what’s inside

All we did was stare

With eyes so big and wide

No one’s birthday

So we decided to share

Whatever there was inside

And we each said a prayer

The contents of the box

Grew and grew

We all had one to hold

Bunnies for everyone too
